The Society for Agriculture, Food Security and Energy for One Health (SAFE) is a global scientific society committed to advancing integrated One Health approaches across agriculture, food systems, energy, and human, animal, and environmental health. SAFE brings together researchers, professionals, institutions, and practitioners from diverse disciplines and regions to address complex global challenges through collaboration, evidence-based knowledge, and shared responsibility. Central to this mission is a commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion as essential foundations of scientific excellence, ethical practice, and meaningful societal impact.

The Value of Diversity

SAFE recognises that addressing challenges such as food insecurity, climate change, environmental degradation, and emerging health risks requires the meaningful participation of people from a wide range of backgrounds, cultures, career stages, and lived experiences. Diversity of perspective strengthens scientific quality, supports innovation, and enables more inclusive and effective solutions.

SAFE therefore seeks to foster environments in which individuals feel respected, welcomed, and able to contribute fully to shared goals, while promoting fairness, transparency, and accountability in governance and decision-making.

Inclusion in Practice

In practice, SAFE integrates equality, diversity, and inclusion across its activities, including governance structures, scientific events, publications, partnerships, and public engagement. The society operates an open and inclusive membership model, encourages broad geographic and disciplinary participation, and supports engagement by early-career researchers and emerging professionals through collaboration, mentoring, and knowledge exchange.

SAFE also promotes inclusive leadership and balanced representation in committees and advisory roles, recognising the importance of diverse voices in shaping the society's direction.

Accessible Global Engagement

SAFE is committed to promoting accessible and inclusive engagement across its global community, including through online and hybrid participation, consideration of global time zones, and accessible communication practices. The society works collaboratively with partners and institutions that share its commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion, guided by mutual respect and shared responsibility.

Oversight of this commitment rests with the SAFE Executive Council, which ensures that inclusive practice remains integral to the society's mission and long-term development.
