What's it like to work with SAFE?
The Society for Agriculture, Food Security and Energy for One Health (SAFE) is an emerging international scientific society committed to fostering collaboration, learning, and inclusive participation across agriculture, food systems, energy, and One Health.
SAFE's work is shaped by a global community of researchers, professionals, students, and partners who engage through voluntary, collaborative, and project-based roles as the society grows.
Learn and Develop
SAFE values continuous learning and professional development. As the society develops its activities, it aims to create opportunities for contributors and members to expand their knowledge and skills through:
- Participation in interdisciplinary discussions and working groups
- Access to educational activities, training sessions, and workshops
- Opportunities for mentoring and peer-to-peer learning
- Exposure to diverse perspectives across disciplines and regions
These opportunities are intended to support both personal growth and professional development within a collaborative scientific community.
Grow and Contribute
Engagement with SAFE is designed to encourage individuals to develop, contribute, and progress in ways that align with their interests and expertise. As SAFE grows, contributors may take on increasing responsibility through coordination roles, committees, or leadership opportunities.
SAFE aims to foster an open and supportive environment in which individuals are encouraged to propose ideas, initiate activities, and collaborate across teams and disciplines.
Recognition and Contribution
SAFE recognises the value of commitment, initiative, and collaborative effort. While SAFE is currently a not-for-profit, early-stage society, it seeks to acknowledge contributions through:
- Professional recognition within the SAFE community
- Opportunities to co-lead initiatives, events, or working groups
- Visibility on SAFE platforms and communications (where appropriate)
- Certificates or formal acknowledgement of service and contribution
Recognition practices will continue to evolve as the society's activities and capacity expand.
Flexibility and Inclusion
SAFE is being developed as a flexible, globally connected society. Participation is designed to be inclusive and adaptable, recognising that contributors may be based in different countries, institutions, and time zones.
SAFE supports:
- Flexible modes of engagement, including online and hybrid participation
- Respect for work–life balance and varying levels of availability
- Inclusive practices that enable broad participation across contexts
Wellbeing and Community
SAFE values a respectful, supportive, and collegial culture. As a community-oriented society, SAFE aims to promote positive interactions, mutual respect, and a sense of belonging among its members and contributors.
Community-building activities may include informal discussions, networking opportunities, and collaborative events designed to strengthen connections across the SAFE network.
A Collaborative and Purpose-Driven Environment
Working with SAFE means contributing to a shared mission focused on sustainable agriculture, food security, responsible energy systems, and One Health. SAFE seeks to create an environment where collaboration, curiosity, and integrity are valued, and where individuals can contribute meaningfully to a growing global initiative.
